Trauma may be part of your story — but it doesn’t have to define you.

A woman sitting indoors with her hands covering her face, appearing distressed or upset.

We become who we are because of what we’ve lived through — but that doesn’t mean we’re stuck there. If you’ve always felt like you have to hold everything together, please everyone, or stay quiet to keep the peace, that’s not your fault. Those patterns were ways you learned to survive. Therapy helps you start unlearning them so you can finally feel safe just being you.

Do you experience:

  • Anxiety

  • Self-blame

  • Feelings of hopelessness or emptiness

  • Guilt and shame

  • Issues in romantic relationships

  • Attachment issues

  • Estrangement from family members

  • Always feeling that you have to be “on”

How therapy can help:

  • It creates a safe space where you can be yourself and openly express the raw, painful emotions you are feeling

  • Learn to feel safe again — We’ll work on grounding techniques to calm your body when anxiety, fear, or panic show up.

  • Break old survival patterns — People-pleasing, overworking, staying silent — these are protective habits you learned to survive. I’ll help you gently start unlearning them.

  • Rebuild trust and connection — Healing means learning to trust yourself and others again, at a pace that feels right for you.

Jenny Lynn DeSantis, LCSW

I’m here to help you heal, grow, and move forward.

Hi 👋. I am Jenny.

Maybe you're carrying weight that no one else can see—trauma that shows up in your relationships, patterns you can't seem to break, or the impact of someone else's addiction. You've tried to push through it, but some things don't just go away on their own.

Here's what I know after 20 years: you don't have to carry this alone.

I help people heal from trauma, rebuild after difficult relationships, and recover their sense of self when alcohol or substance use has taken a toll. Using a trauma-informed approach that blends CBT, mindfulness, and psychodynamic therapy, we'll process what happened and reconnect you with your safety and self-worth.

You deserve to feel like yourself again. Let's start there..

You can expect to feel respected, heard, and truly supported by someone who is here to listen. Whatever you share here, stays here—this is your safe space. No judgment, just openness, validation, and care as you explore your thoughts, feelings, and goals.

What kind of care will I receive?

I believe therapy should fit you, not the other way around. That’s why you’ll receive care that’s individualized to your unique story, challenges, and goals. I have a flexible, virtual schedule makes it easy to meet almost anywhere- as long as it is private and safe. In your office at lunch, at your kid’s games from the car, or at home in a private space.

Why choose Life Balance Psychotherapy?

I offer care that meets you where you are—whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, gambling issues or relationship challenges. My approach is warm, and often infused with humor, helping you feel comfortable while doing meaningful work. I am very down-to-earth and it is important for you to work with someone who “gets” you. This is why the free 15 minute consultation call is so important. It really is a vibe check to see if we would work well together.

Can I use my insurance?

At Life Balance Psychotherapy, we believe therapy should be accessible. We now accept most major insurance plans for clients in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts, as well as private pay.

If your plan offers out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement through your insurance or by using your FSA/HSA. We’re happy to provide a detailed SuperBill that you can submit directly to your insurance company for reimbursement. We also offer private pay and a sliding scale for those with financial need.

Your care should fit your needs, and we’ll work with you to find the best option for you.

How do I get started?

You can answer our contact form, put in your contact information, and we will get in touch to schedule a free 15 minute consult.

A free 15-minute consultation gives us both a chance to connect before committing to therapy. It’s an opportunity for you to share what you’re looking for, ask questions, and get a sense of my style as a therapist. Just as every client is unique, every therapeutic relationship is unique too—and feeling comfortable with your therapist is one of the most important parts of the process.

This brief call helps you decide if I’m the right fit for your needs, and it allows me to learn more about how I can best support you. Think of it as a no-pressure first step toward building trust, safety, and a path forward.

Now we’re a fit, what is next?

The next step is scheduling your intake. We will pick a day/time on the calendar and get you scheduled for your intake. You will receive a welcome email from me with all of my contact information, practice policies and consents to review and sign, and information on how to verify your insurance. The intake session is our first step together. In this session, we’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, your history, and your goals. It’s a chance for me to get to know you and for you to ask questions and get comfortable with the process. From there, we’ll create a personalized plan of treatment to guide our work together.
